"Decided that we start an evangelistic
Campaign out in Krumroy but that we first will have a united meeting
together with our American friends out there" So read the
words of the last meeting of the Elim Pentecostal Church, a Swedish
congregation which joined with people in the Springfield Township
area to form the Krumroy Pentecostal Church, meeting for the first
time on Jan.19th,1936 with Rev. David Carlson as the pastor. This
is the picture (photo coming soon) of the Star Dance
Hall (now a local furniture store) near Arlington and Krumroy
Roads which served as the first location of the new church for
three years.
In 1939, God enabled the small congregation
to purchase for less than $4000 the old public school house which
stood on the corner of Krumroy and Massillon Roads (photo
coming soon). This building was to serve as our church for
the next 20 years. Much work and effort transformed the school
building into a lovely Sanctuary. Later, a parsonage was built
at the rear of the Sanctuary. The land upon which our present
church building stands was also purchased during these years of
growth and development. These men served our Assembly with faithfulness
and dedication during our stay here: Rev. Ernest Berquist, Rev.
Eugene Benjamin, Rev. Frank Blessing, Sr., Rev. Robert Roop, and
Rev. Leroy Hay. This building was later sold to a Baptist congregation
and is still being used as a church today.
Land
having been purchased earlier, construction of the educational
wing of our present building was started in 1960. The first service
was held in January, 1961. The north wing served as a Sunday School
area, while what is now the overflow was used for Worship services.
Under
the leadership of Pastor Serbin, construction of the main Sanctuary
was begun in 1964 and completed the following year. In the years
that followed there were other additions made. A new Sunday School
wing was built in 1966. A new parsonage was purchased in 1967.
An office and education wing was added in 1969. The most recent
addition to our church was the building of a new and spacious lobby, and a 2-story building
to house new offices and youth department.
During
the 41 years our Assembly has been in existence (as of 1978),
many found Christ as their personal Savior, Healer and Baptizer.
Many of our youth have left to serve God as Pastor, Missionaries,
and Evangelists. To list all the good things that have occurred
would be virtually impossible. With gratefulness of heart all
that can be said is, "Thank you, Lord; to you belongs all
the glory!"
